Thank You, Meor

Do take note that during the event the track was slightly dampen by the rain earlier in the evening. The drivers had mixed street and semi-slicks setup. I believe the timing should be better next time on the dry. 400m is very long if you are a 300m dragger. So dont get excited for nothing, just do your best and have fun.

Sepang Drag Battle Round 1 - Mivec 4-Throttle (Group C)

Honda Civic Type-R Camshafts & Dual Valve Springs

You know what they say, "good things will come to those who wait". As a personal advisor for my brother, i knew the day would come when CTR cams and dual valve springs would fall along somewhere when you least know it.

I managed to find these parts from a good friend with a good price (dont bother asking me). As you can see CTR parts are actually good for the street. The keyword here is "street". Sometimes you have to know your budget and the application that you wanna apply for. You dont use track cams for drags.

So why CTR and not Toda or Jun or Bamboo? CTR cams will not make power up to 9k rpm. They quit making power anywhere from 8200-8500 depending on the setup. There is no need to rev to 9000 with these cams, especially on the street. You are about to have fun, not tow your car are 3am with your friends saying "i told you so".

Tips :

(1) When you buy camshafts, do buy the same brand of valve terrain kit. The manufacturer knows better than you do when it comes to R&D. Try not to mix and match for budget sake.

(2) If you want to make power more than 8400rpm, forget about type-r parts even the springs can go 9100rpm.

(3) Intake has a yellow painted marking on the springs. Blue on the exhausts. ITR and CTR dual valve springs are the same.

(4) Check the cams grooves, marking and profile for identification. Dont be absurd when buying used cams and wanting to get the exact spec. Metal do get worn and shaved out. CTR and ITR exhaust cams are the same. 00 spec ITR share the same cam spec with CTR.

(5) Check for spring bind height. Springs will bound when wrongly use with different cams. Type-R springs will bind at 12mm lift. So max will be 11.5 lift. Do your homework :p All b-series retainers are the same.

CTR Camshafts Spec

Int-243 dur. / 11.5mm lift

Exh-235 dur. / 10.5mm lift

TODA Camshafts Pulleys : For B-Series Honda

Today i had to wakeup slightly early to rush to get the brand new Toda pulleys for my brother. Last week i did some surveys and found out the prices were between RM1100-RM980 in Sunway. Some of the shops do not include the sticker when purchase.

So this morning i went to SS Racing. Somehow or rather i'll be in SS Racing at the end of the day. Good people-interaction and less-buying stress in SS Racing, unlike other unfriendly pushy places.

The pulleys are beautiful. Very light indeed. They dont bite like HKS pulleys. Being a loyal and relaxing customer for many years, i got the Toda sticker for free.

  • Where : SS-Racing
  • Price : RM980, RM950 after discount

Building a Super Satria GTi? : Part II

Middle of last year i did blog about Jason's car with his quad throttle setup. At this moment of time, Jason has spent a lot of money, has spent his afternoon and dawn in the workshop and also busy making queries worldwide to find more infos on related parts for his 4G93P engine.

Engine

- Port & polished head (locally done)

- 81mm pistons

- MATSPEED 292/288 custom camshafts

- TOYOTA AE111 45mm throttlebodies + Custom adapter (locally done)

- Custom trumpets (locally done)

- MITSUBISHI 1.0mm original gasket

- PROTON original spark plugs

- HOTBITS 4-1 extractor + 2" collector

Gearing

- PROTON 4G93P gearbox + MITSUBISHI 4.592 final drive

- EXEDY organic clutch kit + Lightened Flywheel

Exhaust System

- 2.3" Exhaust system + Straight flow muffler (locally done)

Engine Management

- MICROTECH LT10s + X4 Ignition Module

Footwork

- SSP 15X6.5 Rims (Taiwan)

- HANKOOK RS-2 Tyres 195/15/50

- CUSCO Coilovers

As you can see the mods may not be as much like a Honda VTEC but he has put 300% effort on his modification . At the moment, he is happily revving to 9500 rpm (nothing to lie about as i was in the bloody car) everyday to school with air-conditioned and power steering.

I have heard so many fucken rumours about monsters with 4-throttle and Australian-parts-built monsters which are mythically breathing in Klang Valley but then again, how many of them are daily driven to Giant Supermarket and cruising under the El-Nino heat 35c during the midday with cooling air-conditioned?. He sometimes go to the track for a weekend session, with full interior indeed.

2007 year looks like a golden piggy year for Jason. He plans to rev this engine to 10,000 rpm with forged internals and new setup. I believe he is almost there with his plans. He has high hopes from his friends and family. I notice when someone spend less time talking, do their work and research, produce good results, i should give him/her throphy.

Jason has dynoed his car recently and he wish to keep the figures to himself. He is not being secretive about it just that he doesnt want anybody to do the same setup and not getting the same results as he is.

However you do it, cheaply or expensively, engine building and tuning has to come together. Jason might advice you the same thing and so do i.

All the best this year to 10,000 rpm.

"Knock-Knock".."Who's There?".."Mrs Detonation"

You cant rely so much on the A/F meter alone during tuning. Instead, a knock monitor toy should be working hand in hand with your chosen A/F meter.

J&S

MSD

HKS (Old Model)

The latest HKS A/F Knock Amp has both capabilities of a A/F meter and Knock Monitor. Apexi Power-FC has knock meter on its handheld commander.

So far the best knock monitor i think would be the :

I believe by listening and looking at the pattern using a software would help even better to detect knocking.

Fuel Pump Booster

Before you change your injectors to some gigantic size or before you install multiple "whinning" external Bosch fuel pumps, u might wanna consider boosting your fuel pump for that extra boost in your fueling system.
