Sayonara 2006

After having a quiet and slow reminiscing, i decided not to listdown what have i modded to my car this year in my blog. Instead, i want to thank heartfully to the group of people that have actually help me brainstorm my ideas and also helped me in the process of making my mods come true for this year.

I have to admit that this year has been a slow modding year for me. No doubt the budget is rather small but i tried my best to stick with my priorities. I cant stray too much as the leftovers for next year is something to be achieved completely. I had risked a few crazy mods which turnout to be fruitful. Im happy with what i have now, no doubt. Im sticking with my crazy ideas which some say im going mad. Only wear and tear problems are always at the back of my mind.

Godwillings, next year will be something out of the mind.

Merry Xmas, Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha & Happy New Year!

See you guys next year.

OMNIMAN Individual Throttlebodies (ITB) - Spyshot?

Got this pic from some forum. Apparently they are still doing R&D with the ITBs. If you look carefully, theres a marking thats written 53mm. They commented that power starts at 8500rpm. We hope to see the result when they release the final product early 2007. It could be different. As long its cheaper than TWMs, its cool. People are still debating about quads vs single throttlebody until today.

Greddy (Grex) Gearknob Type-N

I rarely use my Greddy gearknob. Its part of my gearknob collection. Its as good as brand new since day 1. Maybe this year its my 1st time using it since i kept it for the last 2.5 years. I was using my stock gearknob koz i was so busy with work until Hizam got his same brand and type gearknob. One thing about gearknob that it has to fit nicely with the shifter and only you as driver know how it feels. Its not you buy the same type koz your friend buys it.

Gearknobs have weights for smooth shift throw for your likings. Some ppl like it barebone feeling like SRR or SPOON. So its a very subjective matter. The reason i swapped it recently was due to the fact i had to service my gear shifter system as the old bushes were worn out.

Custom Battery Relocation Project

It has been like 2 years i think ive been dreaming in my head with a sketch to have a battery relocation kit. 2 years is the same time when i dreamt about my rollcage which eventually i got it this year. I took the opportunity to be a guinea-pig(yeah yeah someone has to be one sooner or later) to do something out of the ordinary. I would love to have the SARD battery relocation kit but its dead costly for something nice and non-performance related.

Anyways, after the recent boot bar fabrication ordeal, i requested for a battery relocation kit since especially mine is bare open at the rear. So something had to cover it nicely and also to prevent any toxic gases from hovering my cabin chamber. I requested my design to Suhaimi(Ayi's Brother). After a week, the box was ready to be fitted in. The hard part is when Ayi had to fit the old mount inside the box which he had to drill more holes on the base. The process took about 2-3 hours to mount. The rest of the aluminium weld has been pre-done before i arrived. The box was fitted perfectly and if there was an inch bigger, it wouldnt fit *phew*.

As usual Hizam had his polish bottle and cloth. The shine is amazing after the hard polish. It is not easy to shine aluminium surfaces and YES, please buy a good aluminium shine cream/spray/wax and whatever. One scratch and the el-cheapo solution will ruin everything. The Option sticker is just some JDM thingy :p

J's Racing Boot Bar

I took all these pix last week. I havent had time to actually spray paint the extension plates that has been welded nicely by Ayi. I have to admit that Ayi's work is really good when it comes to welding. Even Jaafar(A&J) cant do this perfect smooth job (no time?).

My Bro Vs Louis "Mr Clean"

Im giving these boys a thumbs-up for the effort done. More things to do like proper colour scheme for the silicon hosing, negative chamber box, removal of plug cable cover and etc. (All pix taken using Nokia N70)

Short Shifter (Delayed Posting)

Looks like i had forgotten to blog about my short shifter. No wonder something was missing on the blog. Bought it 2nd hand from a friend of mine. It was meant for the Mitsubishi EVO I-II-III actually. They are straight bolt-on to my Proton Satria.

Before this i was using Proton's original shifter and i had to cut and weld to shorten the throw. It was the cheapest way to do. I cant find any aftermarket brands at that time, so dont blame me.

Somehow or rather i like the feeling of the ITR short shifter. This my personal preference and experience. It has to be close to that feeling as possible.

  • Price : RM250 with the base mount (Used)
  • Brand : Unknown japanese brand
  • Installation : 30mins and less than RM50 labour charges (Lazy to DIY)

Taking A Break (1st January 2007 - 28th February 2007)

Every year i take a month break from modding which is the month of January. I have been doing this for the last few years. Modding means not buying anything for the car. I usually spend this month by servicing my car. I will service whatever i can service (if budget permits) to start the new year smoothly. I dont like puny problems to burst anytime or during my mods.

Next year i decided to take 2 months break from modding. Im gonna rest and plan for the 2007 mods which i know its gonna be expensive. Im gonna take a break myself and maybe enjoy some weekend holidays. My beast has to rest this time. I do not have funds coming from my parents, uncles or even grandmonthers to support my modding interest. So there are heaps of things still pending on my modding list. Some people are lucky and some are not. Everything has to be well planned and carefully laid out. Living in the reality world, to live, to breathe and to mod at the same time is not easy.

I will still update my blog with new stuffs and techies. The mods will come after the break.

Stay tuned.

My Fuel Pump Comparison

The first time when i did my engine hybrid, i was aftering a "bigger" fuel pump. The local scene was over-hyped with big sized factory fuel pumps as long its over-fueling for some sick reason. So far the big fuel pump families came from the Skylines, Supras and also RX-7s. So i had to choose out of the biggest to get the most descent for my setup. So i had to find a used RX-7 fuel pump. I managed to find one at a local wrecker and it was smooth. It was for the 1984-1992 version rated 220lph. It is actually quite hard to find infos on this particular fuel pump. They usually rate them between 210-220lph type. Part number is e3000-53395.

Few months back, i decided to upgrade to the famous Walbro fuel pump. As i know Walbro has many types with part number GSS-XXX and has different capacity output to suit your car. They also have a special "High Pressure" model. So does not mean you have a Walbro, its all 255 lph. Does not mean u have a 255 lph and you are in the high pressure category. Please refer to your GSS markings on the pump itself.

Walbro Comparison

Walbro 255 LPH

e3000-53395 (84-92 Rx7)

Price : RM480-520 (it may come with boxes and watnot)
Price to install : Ask your mechanic. Some fuel tank must drop down before installation.
Note : It is a bit noisy like a bitch whining inside the car (Im using GSS-342 255lph High Pressure)

FSE Fuel Regulator Relocation

Honestly, its a bloody eye sore when i see my FPR sitting near the coil with all the cables and tubes dangling around. Furthermore i had a hard time checking on my motor oil as the FPR is blocking my way. Its been like this for like 2 fucking years since i got my FPR. Argh!

So i have had it. Fuck it! I know it has to be done sooner or later. I sent my car to XCool to do the job. Took them 1 hour to relocate and put new fuel hoses on my car. Now its so much easier to look at the pressure gauge.

Cost : RM39.00 (New Fuel Hoses + Labour)

Pending Pix #1

Finally my boot bar is in my car. I had to bring a witness(Zuhaili) to make sure its being done perfectly. The job was being done at Suhaimi's garage whereby his younger brother did the custom mounts and weldings. Suhaimi also thinks that im mad cutting the J'sRacing bar. But then again it was a tiny cut to make it fit to my Proton Satria from a Civic EK9 version bar.

I myself did not take any pix during the process but thankfully Zuhaili brought his big ass camera to snap some evidence during the process. Theres some comments from Zuhaili about my car and i believe the rough ride wasnt pleasant. Haha.

Things to Learn

  • When you buy products for your car, try to buy something which was meant for the car or something during its decade. Dont try to fix Advan RG rims on your old Honda Civic, not because its not suitable, but Advan RGs are meant for latter models.
  • Try to mod things in stages. People tend to get carried away with cheap things. When things are cheap, you forget your plans and budget. You then forget the purpose of stage-modding. When you do so, you feel reluctant and obligated to skip the current mods.
  • Have some creativity and try to adopt the simplest way of modding. It can be cheap and nice or expensive and ugly. Read more car magazines, look upon good ideas and setup that has been done before. Dont try to be a smartass and have one opinion. Have 2-3 opinions to guide you along.

Heatshield Products : Reflect-A-Tape

When i was shopping with my brother at N1-Racing, i decided to buy
the Heatshield Products tape for my car. Since Hizam and Zuhaili has
successfully installed on their cars, so i decided to join the team. The
main reason i bought the tape is because the heat generated underneath
the hood plus the surrounding heat is just too hot sometimes. Since im
concern about the chillness of my air-condition system in my car, so lets do
some preventive measures to ensure the rubber hoses arent melting.
  • Brand : Heatshield
  • Where : N1-Racing
  • Price : RM130/roll (RM100 after discount)
  • How long to install : 1-3 hours

[I would like to thank Hizam for the big help especially when i do not have
small hands to do DIY sometimes]

Shopping at N1-Racing : Apex'I N1 Racing Muffler + HKS SPF

Well my bro was here for 2 days/1 night last weekend. We head down the usual places like SS Racing, N1-Racing and R-1 Racing with Hizam. The plan was simple, clear and concise. We know what we were looking for and we went according to the plans. One good thing about planning is that you have more extra time to relax especially you know about the weekend jams, xmas shopping and some monsoon rain.

At SS Racing, the goodies that i like are the Aerocatch, Takata harness, DC2 Gruppe-M air intake, SE37K rims and the Apex'I toys. At R-1 Racing, everything was nice. Hizam and my brother drooled so much, they forgot to bring the buckets. Haha.

At N1-Racing, my brother wanted to buy the HKS with Titanium Tip muffler. Tho it looks good but i reckoned it wasnt meant for his car instead i persuaded him to get the Apex'I N1 muffler for NA. It was so nice and smooth. Then later he got himself a HKS SPF size 200/70 for his car. Even Melissa tried to convince us about the new "Reloaded", it was obviously ugly.

  • Apex'I N1 Muffler (2.5in) - RM880 (RM770.00 after discount)
  • HKS SPF 200/70 - RM300 (RM280.00 after discount)
